Animus 2.0 Brush Set by YaVaho155 Animus 2.0 Brush Set by YaVaho155
So, it is finally here! The Animus 2.0 Brush set that I planned to make! This rar file contains the abr file for photoshop, and a folder with every brush as a png for all other applications (such as GIMP). This set contains brushes for making all the various elements of the Animus 2.0 interface (from Assassin's Creed 2), as well as a few sample brushes. With the use of a few layer styles you'll be able to create a very convincing Animus styled environment (note: the special effects are not included in the brushes, they are simply the shapes). Again, templar and assassin logo are not included to avoid trouble with the respective organisations ;)

Feel free to use, but give credit when used. Also, feel free to post a comment here with feedback, or a link to a work where you used it. I'd like to see how this is used. Do NOT claim as your own or redistribute.

... Wait, you've never before seen a .rar? Ooooh boy.
*Puts on drill sergeant uniform* Okay, listen up, 'cuz this is some basic stuff! .rar files are some sort of virtual packages, pretty much like a mail order, but virtual. Inside, you'll find the stuff you actually asked for. Now, how to open it? Pretty simple, you use one of the many light programs available. Winzip and Winrar are standard, with Winrar being used the most since it is practically free (it just asks you to pay for it, but never stops working. Good guy Winrar.)
7-zip is another alternative if you want to go "fully legal free", but take my advice and download and install Winrar (if you don't have it already, most computers come with it already installed).
Just double-click the file, and Winrar will open it automatically. There you choose to extract the files, select the folder you wish to extract it to, and done.
That concludes basic computers 101 lesson 1: Winrar. Off you go! And remember, tip of the day: Google has ALL your answers.

...VLC opens rars.... You have one of the weirdest things going on here. VLC is just a media player, it isn't meant to open packages.
Well, just go for Winrar, normally your system should detect that rar files have to be opened using winrar (if not, you can always specify this by ricght-clicking the file and hitting "open with", then selecting winrar in the popup).
Again, just google your problems, I solve 98% of my questions with it.

I have been thinking about doing those, but the Brotherhood interface was incredibly similar to the one of ACII, making a pack for that set somewhat unnecessary. Revelation's interface focuses a lot more on semi-organic animated shapes, which are incredibly difficult to properly capture in a brush, but I could give it a shot. Haven't played ACIII yet, and I truly hope they gave the interface a major redesign so I could make a full pack for that one ;)

If you're using Photoshop then make a new layer and stamp in the brush once. Then add a layer style to it, do this by selecting the layer, and go to the button in the layers palette with fx on it. In there you can choose a variety of effects, I used Outer Glow for this effect. Tweak at your leasure, and then copy over the layer as many times as you need, while rotating, scaling and moving it, to create the entire strand. For the red ones, don't forget to add the opacity and an Inner Glow for the lighter center of the shards.
Not sure how to do it in Gimp.

Thank you, also thanks for the fave :)

Well, if you're using photoshop, you make a new layer in which you just apply the brushes. Once you're happy with the composition, you use a layer style. From CS2 on (might be earlier, but I'm not sure) there's a little button in the layers tab that has fx on it. Click it, and you're presented with a big menu with all sorts of options (make sure you had the right layer selected when you click the button). I used outer glow for this effect. It basically checks all the strokes on the layer and applies an outer glow to them. Handy thing is that you can always change them later or even remove them without losing your brushes. Now, you can tweak the effect's colour, size etc. I suggest you do this subtle, don't go too wild with them. Feel free to experiment in these menus (inner glow and inner shadows can sometimes give surprising results). After this, I sometimes also use a blur filter, depending what sort of effect I want (radial blur for example is very good for suggesting that zooming in motionyou had in the first Assassin's Creed when entering a memory). Again, experiment at your leisure, but it's best to make a copy of your layer first before blurring, since this is only reversible with undo (ctrl-z, I guess you know that :) ).
Hope this helps :)

On a side note, I also have a brush set with the effects of the Animus 1.28 (from AC1). You might want to check it out :)
When you do something with these, feel free to post a link here so I can see your work. Have fun using the brushes :D

Sorry for the late reply, what program do you actually use? Be sure to give the version as well (for example, my Animus set as ABR doesn't work with Photoshop 7 or lower). I'll get back to you asap.

Winzip is capable of unzipping rar files, normally, as is 7zip. Most programs can do rars, whereas zip tends to be a bit more rare overall.
